This is actually an update where in 3 hours I completed a sketch, flatted it, and colored it. That's awesome! I do need to get more practice with digital stuff and color specifically so this is good practice to take my sketching into some greater depth. I've posted the color in a separate post because the flatting and color have nothing to do with each other and are both kind of awesome in their own right.
So I decided to finish the griffin I did for the flatting exercise. After finding an interesting example of colors on google, I started to play with the actual colors of the beast. I'm not really sure what I'm doing with the color choices entirely, but as Jake Parker said, 'Finished, no perfect.'
So, while listening to a Jason Brubaker 'Talk-Ink' and after having listened to a bunch of Jake Parker stuff in which they both gave permission to copy illustrations you like, I pulled out my copy of 'A Dangerous Journey' and immediately turned to this guy. There are a bunch of other awesome characters in that book that I may very well get into this sketchbook.
I had been drawing sheep characters during the week and really liked the black and white and the line and space. So, in church I went ahead and took notes in cartoon! This week was a rare topical sermon on fellowship...
